Most people are absolutely self absorbed and self centered. Even their selfless acts are done so they can think of their selves as good people. So what you may ask. The pursuit of selfish desires and wants is the basis of Capitalism. It is one of the major components or art and music. As a musician I am very aware of the self absorption our kind has. Sure sure, we make up myth’s that describe our acts as selfless. Soldiers are self sacrificing for their countries, though most of them like to hurt people and shoot weapons, rape pillage and maim. But hey, it was for the country and defending others, so it is selfless. People give to their various religious organizations but seldom without having it known. Husbands and wives marry to have arrangements of support and sex, not to melt into the Love of God with one another. Tantra partners often are just making up a highly developed spiritual explanation so they can have sex and deny that is what they are doing.

Then there is the endless pursuit of self examination. Some people are completely shallow because they never examine their actions, they just are puppets acting at the mercy of some feeling or thought, declaring themselves free as they are slaves to things they don’t understand. But most of us do examine ourselves. It is a compulsion. As most of our thoughts and self identification is nothing but a conglomerate of random explanations to events distorted by our memory of past events, we become nothing but a being of conversation talking to itself within. So is not our self examination nothing more than the self examining itself in order to understand itself. A reflection looking at it’s reflection to see it’s reflection?

Vanity of vanity, all is vanity. This famous quote is more true than it appears. The word “vanity” is Hevel.”
It means empty, a mist, a smoke, an appearance of something their that is but a mist in ones perception, like an illusion. To look at others and in our minds have thoughts of superiority of inferiority, thoughts like smoke that gets in our eyes and blinds us as we think we see clearly? When the author of Ecclesiastes is telling you that everything, all is vanity, they are saying that all the thoughts in your mind, all your self judgement, all your internal conversation that goes on endlessly in your mind, your world you live in, is an empty mist, an appearance of things not before you. This isn’t to say the earth is not here. It very much is. If a tiger eats you, that is not an illusion. The illusion would be to say “this is all but a covering and illusion in my mind, not a reflection of what is real.” You ARE being eaten by a lion. This is how twisted the vanity gets. You accept your internal conversation that talks about illusion as the real thing, and the lion ripping your leg off as the illusion. This is how deceptive it gets. The most spiritually advanced person is often the most deceived, because the idea of being spiritually advanced is a vanity. We are all spirit, and from God, and any concept of superior or being more advanced is a vanity. All there is my friends is those that are awake, and those that aren’t, and neither is better than the other. If you think you are, the darkness is pulling you by the nose with self absorption.

Again. SO WHAT? You ask. It is vital that you awaken from the mist. Look at all the child abuse that is done as a refection  of the adults internal demons, dementia, while they think it is all good. All the slaughter in warfare as we gloriously devastate one another, each side being the one that is on the sight of right, the side of vanity. Think of all the spouses lying to one another to pursue their internal demons they call freedom, when in fact they are enslaved by them. Think of all the things you do that keep your heart closed, that you do in vengeance to another and thus set up their act of vengeance in response so you will take revenge again. It’s all about you. Or is it? Or is it about you, being a slave to your being of conversation?

And is it even possible to be all about you? You “live” in a body composed of million and millions of cells, bacteria, viruses, countless life forms using you as a host for their ends, composed of atoms that ultimately have no form but are instead a massive energy haze (like a mist) in and endless ingestion and excretion of energy packets that have no real relationship to your self explanation, one of several billions of one species amount hundreds of thousands living on a massive energy pattern of combined atom mists and molecules in endless space that bends back upon itself, not of it that concerned with you, except to give you an illusion of the power to channel this so it can keep ensnared in this illusion. Almost nothing that is real in your life (your body, breathing, eating, crapping, pissing) has anything to do with your self absorption. But you think it is all about you, and anyone who isn’t willing to support that is discarded and hated, a vanity of vanity to keep you stuck in your self absorption.

So what? From my personal experience, I know there is something else living in each and everyone one of us that is caught up in all of this. Something totally different that you can’t see with your mind or thoughts. Sure, you can make up opinions and theories and other fantasies about it, but they are not it. And you can reach it with your thoughts because your thoughts are the explanation, the refection of it, and the reflection can’t look at the source. You have to find the source. And when you do, you awaken. That is the big So What. Do you want to know why you live? Or do you want to be dragged around by the nose chasing dreams in your head endlessly until death, only to have your being and thoughts recycled?

This isn’t about you. It is about keeping you focused an a myth self so you can’t see your source, a smoke that gets in your eyes, irritating and blinding you while it whispers in your ear “see, you can see, you know what is true” blinding you revelations that show nothing.

And the sad thing is that it is your birthright to have the Love of God in you. It is your attempt to be different, better or less than, all these vanities of this world, that block your feeling the one thing you want. You are handed it, yet this self absorption, this endless judging and chasing after things that keeps you from accepting the one thing that is given to you. And so you suffer.

Stop the suffering. Open your heart. Let God Love you. Except for eating and excreting, all the rest is just stuff going by. It will not make you better or worse or anything. Accept His offer to you.
